The progenitor of our modern-day “weird” originally meant something closer to fate or destiny, with a little twist of the supernatural-a perfect description of the forces that bond them. That’s why the Old English word wyrd might be the best term to describe the origins of his beautiful friendship and subsequent collaboration with actor and musician Johnny Flynn. Robert Macfarlane, high chieftan of logofiles everywhere, has dedicated entire books, including 2015’s Landmarks and 2017’s The Lost Words, which he co-authored with Jackie Morris, to preserving words and their original meanings. It starts by eliciting the DW requirements and then. In fact, the proposal is an MDA-oriented UML profiles. In this paper, we describe how to apply MDA throughout the entire development process of DW. The MDA aims to automate the software engineering process, reducing thus the software development cost and improving its productivity. On the other hand, the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) is a standard approach which intended to support the whole phases of software manufacturing, by promoting the usage of models and transformations between them up to code generation. Generally, most of those approaches are interested in a particular aspect of DW (Storage, ETL processing, OLAP analysis, reporting, etc.) and don't cover its whole life-cycle. However, there are neither standard method that addresses the design of all DW layers nor a software process prescribed for this kind of engineering domain. Nowadays, many approaches have been proposed to design and develop Data Warehouse (DW). A comparison to three existing approaches shows that the proposed meta-classifier is competitive according to hamming-loss evaluation measure, and it is the most stable classifier according to hamming-loss standard deviation. The studied compromise is analysed according to its impact on the classifier complexity and on hamming-loss evaluation measure. Firstly, no predefined structure is imposed for learning label relations, and secondly, the meta-classifier is based on three measures giving control on the studied compromise. In this paper, a new meta-classifier with two main advantages is proposed for GMLC. This paper is motivated by the lack of a study analysing the compromise between handling label relations and limiting error propagation in GMLC, and by the fact that there is no known approach giving a control on that compromise to allow such a study. Most of existing approaches either ignore label relations, or can learn only relations fitting a predefined imposed structure. Ignoring those relations can lead to inconsistent predictions, but if they are considered, then a prediction error for one label will be propagated to all related labels. For example, in a movie catalog web page, a five stars action movie should be at least a one star suspense movie. In graded multi-label classification (GMLC), each data can be assigned to multiple labels according to a degree of membership on an ordinal scale, and with respect to label relations.

We hope we have shown you how easy it is to install and paint ceiling tiles/planks. Check out our full video tutorial on how to paint ceiling tiles/planks below.Īnd that’s it. Apply the paint evenly in slightly varying directions to avoid overlap marks. Even from just one foot away, you cannot tell this is painted thin styrofoam. The small room I started with had a 7 foot ceiling. The planks I purchased are so simple - in design and installation. Make sure your walls are covered with protective tape, and that you have protective drop sheets on the floors to avoid cleaning up the mess after. 1 Helpful I recently purchased a bungalo and rebuilding it. How to paintīasically, ceiling tiles are painted the same way as a regular ceiling. Spray painting is faster - If you have a spray painting machine and a large open. We also recommend using a thicker sleeve so that you grab more paint and save yourself the trouble. Oil based paint or spray paint may damage the styrofoam by dissolving it. You can also find paint that already contains primer, so you’re covered on both fronts. You don’t have to prime the tiles, but it is recommended because primer prepares the surface for the paint. Make sure you’re using a water based paint, and we recommend doing the painting once the planks are already installed. To paint ceiling planks, you’ll need pretty much the same painting equipment that you would use with a regular ceiling. Check out the full installation video below: Continue like that, and you’ll have yourself a new ceiling in no time. When you start the next row, begin with the leftover plank you just cut. Simply flip the tile and mark the cutting spot with a pencil by measuring the space between your last plank installed and the edge of the ceiling. When there is no more room to install a whole plank, cut a plank to fit it in. Just like with regular tiles, start from the side and work your way in, pretty much the same way as you would install hardwood flooring. Grab your first plank and apply the adhesive about half-an-inch to an inch away from the edges. You belong under Ceilume Styrofoam ceiling tiles Really Styrofoam is for cups and takeout containers, not for the ceiling you live your life under. And, of course, our beautiful ceiling planks. In our tutorial we used the Styro Pro glue as it offers a strong hold. Any type of construction adhesive in white. In order to install ceiling planks, here is what you will need: Painting Foam Ceiling Tiles Painting foam ceiling tiles is an easy way to create a drastic change. Here’s a step by step guide tutorial with video on how to install styrofoam ceiling tiles/planks. They are lightweight, affordable, and easy to install. These ceiling planks are made from styrofoam and they are installed pretty much the same way as you would install styrofoam ceiling tiles. Both designs can be used in a commercial or a residential setting, and they can hide any type of damage on the ceiling, including the outdated popcorn ceilings. Our newest addition to our collection are the beautifully simplistic ceiling planks, which we currently offer in two finishes: natural pinewood immitation and white. Unfinished (Bright White unpainted) Malta Foam Ceiling Tiles.Īntique White (slightly off-white painted) Roven Foam Ceiling TilesSo you’ve decided it’s time to take on a new project and decorate your ceilings. Please also consider below images showing entire room and ceiling with unpainted and then painted foam ceiling tiles. I hope the above high resolution images will help decide which tile is right for your project. Please click here to open above image in full resolution in a new window. The ceiling tile on top is Antique White - Painted. Please see below photos that show the difference between the unpainted White and painted White foam Ceiling Tile. The painting can be performed either prior or after they are installed on the ceiling. All of our unfinished as well as already pre-painted ceiling tiles can be painted with most any water-latex based paints. It brings the design and really makes it imposible to tell what material the ceiling tile is made out of. However, the paint does add the finish to the foam ceiling tile. The unfinished white foam ceiling tiles can be installed as is and they do not require to be painted. We have decided to devote an entire page in order to help understand the difference and overall look. One of the most common question we receive is regarding the difference between Unfinished White and Antique White ceiling tiles. Write the electron configuration for nitrogen. To write the electron configuration code for an atom, you write the symbol for the type of orbital present at a particular sublevel (1 s, 2 s, 2 p, etc.) followed by a superscript to indicate how many electrons are actually in that sublevel in the atom you are describing. Since orbitals are filled in order of increasing n and, within each energy level, in order of increasing ℓ, scientists can use a short hand, known as the electron configuration code, to represent filled orbitals. From the 19 th electron on, though, things get a little crazy! Before we move on to the that region beyond 18 electrons, let's take a brief look at a shorthand notation that scientists use to signify the electron orbital filling of a given atom. First, all of the n = 1 orbitals get filled, then all of the n = 2 orbitals get filled, then the n = 3 orbitals get filled. The first 18 electrons are "nice and easy", because they fill the orbitals in order. So far we've talked about filling the orbitals in Figure 7.3 up to the 3 p orbitals. After that, the next six will fill the three p orbitals.įigure 7.3: These are the first three energy levels with their sub-levels. When filling the n = 3 block, the s sublevel will always be filled first, since it is lowest in energy. The first orbital is an s orbital, the next three are p orbitals, and the last five are d orbitals. In the yellow n = 3 block, there are nine different orbitals. Once all four orbitals in the orange n = 2 block have been filled, electrons will start filling the yellow n = 3 block. The first orbital is an s orbital and the other three are p orbitals. In the orange n = 2 block, there are four different orbitals. Once the red n = 1 block is entirely filled, electrons will start filling the orange n = 2 block. That orbital will hold the first two electrons in the atom. Notice the red n = 1 block contains only an s orbital. In Figure 7.3, each of the circles represents an orbital and, of course, each can hold a total of two electrons. Figure 7.3 shows the first three energy levels (marked by the large differently colored blocks), and the sublevels (separated by dotted lines) that are present in any atom. How do electrons fill the different energy levels, energy sublevels, and orbitals? To understand that question, it helps a lot to look at a diagram. Be able to write either orbital representations or electron configuration codes.Įlectron Configurations.Be able to write electron configuration of any element given the total number of electrons in that element.Figure out how many different sublevels can exist at any given energy level.Figure out how many electrons can exist at any given sublevel. “We're not really finding evidence of these over-massive objects within our JADES sample,” he states. Endsley explains that even as hot, massive newborn stars light up their galaxy, they’re not necessarily associated with all that much mass. However, while these findings explain too-bright galaxies, they don’t explain the too-massive galaxies, another early, albeit controversial find from JWST data. This “bursty” mode of star formation could explain the unexpectedly bright galaxies announced by other astronomers - they were simply looking at the galaxies fired up with unexpectedly intense star formation. The low fraction of galaxies with such emission suggests that individual clumps would suddenly light up with new stars and then rest for some time. “Stars within very early galaxies are forming in these super-compact clumps,” he adds, “forming hundreds, perhaps thousands of these very massive, young stars all at once, basically within the span of a couple millions of years.”īut they weren’t “on” all the time. The hundreds of galaxies offer a view almost into the very opening scenes of the cosmos, and they show that things were different then.Ībout a sixth of early galaxies in the JADES sample are in the throes of star formation of a kind we don’t see in the nearby universe, Endsley explains, marked by extremely bright emission at certain wavelengths. But the JADES team assuaged that concern: Of 42 galaxies followed up with spectra, from which astronomers can obtain more fool-proof redshift measurements, there were no masqueraders. Using that method, it’s possible for dusty, relatively nearby galaxies to masquerade as more distant sources. Astronomers first gauged their distances by a method that depended on measuring their brightness at each of several color bands. Some in the community had been concerned that not all of these so-called early galaxies were really in the early universe. The sample also provided opportunity for reassurance. “This,” Hainline declares, “is the rest of the iceberg.” Now, 93% of the galaxies JWST is picking up are new, never identified before. “These are the galaxies that are starting the process of making the elements and the complexity that we see in the world around us today.”īefore JWST, Hubble saw two luminous galaxies at such early times (redshifts greater than 10). “This is important because we live in a universe of complexity, and the early universe was hydrogen, helium and light,” Hainline says. Carniani (Scuola Normale Superiore), and the JADES Collaboration Color composite JWST NIRCam image of the galaxy JADES-GS-z13-0, the most distant, spectroscopically confirmed galaxy known so far. If the entire history of the universe were a two-hour movie, then these galaxies are enabling us to watch, for the first time, scenes from the first two to five minutes. The most distant of these - “the farthest galaxy humans have ever seen,” Hainline says - is spectroscopically confirmed to be at a redshift of 13, or just 200 million years after the Big Bang. The JADES team has so far discovered 717 galaxies at redshifts greater than 8, when the universe was just 600 million years old. These galaxies reveal the chaotic state of the universe as it was just hundreds of million years after the Big Bang. But this newest, deep-sky stare is on a whole different level, with 32 days’ worth of telescope time, infrared wavelengths that allow JWST to see more distant galaxies than any telescope before it, and a much bigger viewing area than Hubble was capable of.Įven as the JADES program continues to collect data, team members Kevin Hainline (Steward Observatory) and Ryan Endsley (The University of Texas at Austin) announced at a press conference of the 242nd meeting of the American Astronomical Society the discovery of hundreds of early galaxies. The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey (JADES) is basically the next-gen version of the Hubble Deep Field. \).NASA / ESA / CSA / Brant Robertson (UC Santa Cruz) / Ben Johnson (CfA) / Sandro Tacchella (Cambridge) / Marcia Rieke (University of Arizona) / Daniel Eisenstein (CfA) Image processing Dual task averages based on 4 dual-task trials. We use to get in touch with people, more than with objects, so this way to figure out an urban identity in a human metaphor, makes everything easier. At the end of this long process of discovering the city’s personality, I can focus on its strongest features, both aesthetic and psychological, so finally the city looks to me just like a familiar person. I also read many books about it I watch movies where the urban reality is the protagonist. When I sketch a city, my aim is to understand it deeply by observing its streets and daily life, speaking with the inhabitants and the people who work in this town, looking on the way they see the city itself. I think it's a more direct and fun way to get in touch with the metropolis, its personality and its secrets, just as if you were talking to a friend. In fact, considering cities as people, London also tells us about itself in the first person. The title I am London refers to the fact that in my book the city speaks for itself. It was a beautiful encounter with London.Ģ5 illustrations done for Stanga’s book I am London (Moleskine, 2016) are presented together with 15 unpublished drawings, in pencil and ink Image: Rocco Soldini I couldn't wait to get out and experience it! So my encounter with London went against the stereotypes that portray it as grey, foggy and rainy, revealing to me a colourful and warm metropolis, almost always 30 degrees in that particular summer, and to be experienced outdoors. From the window of my room, my gaze sweeped over the city, from the park to the BT Tower, so every morning London bid me good morning, presenting itself in all its multifaceted and attractive reality. I remember that it was a very tall building on Marylebone Road, on the edge of Regent's Park. I stayed for the whole month of August in the student house of the Polytechnic of Central London. Zohra: When did you first visit the city? Do you recall a fond memory from that time?Ĭarlo: I first visited London 30 years ago. The works capture intimate architectural details of various buildings and landmarks of London, allowing it to speak for itself Image: Rocco Soldini So it was really exciting to portray the life of this unique metropolis to produce the book I am London, published by Moleskine in 2017. Such a dialectic generates extremes and eccentric phenomena, not alien to the typical British humour, in every sphere.ĭrawing London, in other words observing it in depth, allows me to confront an incredible variety of architectural styles and contrasts that stimulate curiosity and creativity. The atmosphere that you breathe in London is permeated by this very dialogue that resolves itself in a well-balanced equilibrium between conservative vision, guardian of the past, and impetus towards the future. These two opposing characteristics generate a positive tension that pervades many aspects: architecture, politics, fashion, design, society and the mentality of the inhabitants. Zohra Khan: What is it about London that fascinates you?Ĭarlo Stanga: What inspires me most about London is the contrast between tradition and contemporaneity. Intrigued to know more, I connected with him on an email conversation.īerlin-based architectural illustrator Carlo Stanga (right) at the opening of the exhibition Image: Rocco Soldini The idea of these drawings for him, as he tells STIR, is to express the atmosphere and identity of what shapes London’s unrepeatability. A close look at Stanga’s compositions comprising buildings, and urban spaces-be it landmarks or decrepit pockets, an imposing spectacle or a prosaic encounter-one discovers things that often go unnoticed, or doesn’t show up in plain sight. The exhibition titled London Calling presents a series of meticulous drawings and illustrations, each artwork put together as a multilayered theatrical scene observing the spirit of the British city. I think it's a more direct and fun way to get in touch with the metropolis, its personality and its secrets, just as if you were talking to a friend," says the Berlin-based Italian artist Carlo Stanga as I tried picking his mind to know what inspired his ongoing showcase at Galleria Bonvini in Milan.
